There was a time when Cary, NC called itself “the technology town of NC.” (See our Cary Town Council as-large councilwoman Lori Bush’s blog post for background.) Back then,  the term technology really had a different meaning. Today, technology is about starting two-way conversations, gathering information, tracking feedback and delivery results. Open government initiatives (like the one in Washington, DC and in our own back yard) are taking data such as crime statistics, parking info, bill payment, neighborhood issues, etc. and making them available in real time.

The Town of Cary’s Technology Task Force was created to “determine how the Town’s use of technology services can better serve its citizens.” Most importantly, it’s about using technology to tighten the bonds between citizens and government so we can be more informed, proactive and efficient.
